In season grain recipes

“I wonder what it would be like to live in a world where it was always June.” – L. M. Montgomery

Ah June! The official start to summer, and a perfect time to be outdoors. In Ontario this is the time of year that farmers are wrapping up their spring planting and taking care of their growing plants.

This is also the time of year where in-season produce is now available at local grocery stores, farmers markets and farm stores! Ontairo grains are in season year round, as things like oatmeal, flour, cornmeal, tofu and pearl barley can be sourced fresh from the grocery store at any time! Produce however, is the freshest when in season.

According to Foodland Ontario’s Availability Guide, items such as cherries, raspberries, rhubarb, strawberries, asparagus, beans,  peas and onions are now in season. Check out some of our favourite grain recipes below that are using in season produce this month.
