Yield: 10 servings
Prep time: 40 minutes
Cook time: 10 minutes
Ingredients:
For the crescent rolls:
- 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 3 tbsp sugar
- 2 tsp instant yeast
- 1 ¼ teaspoons salt
- 1 cup of butter
- ½ milk
- ¼ cup of water
- 1 large egg
For the carrot rolls:
- 1 cup cream cheese,
- ¼ cup chopped parsley
- ¼ cup chopped chives
- ¼ cup chopped basil
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- Sprigs of fresh parsley (for the carrot tops)
Directions:
For the crescent rolls:
- Combine flour, sugar, yeast and salt with a whisk, in a large mixing bowl.
- Cut the butter into small pieces (dime sized), and add to mixing bowl.
- Place milk, water and egg into a small bowl. Whisk together and then add to mixing bowl with dry ingredients. Combine all ingredients until a dough ball forms.
- Cover dough with plastic wrap and place in fridge for 10 mins to chill.
- Cover your work surface with flour, then knead the dough for about 10 minutes or until it is stretchy and elastic in texture. Cover again with plastic wrap, and chill in fridge for 15 minutes.
- While dough is chilling, preheat oven to 350°F.
- On the same flour surface, roll dough out into a long rectangle. For the crescent shape you want the dough to be long and skinny when rolled out. Cut the dough into triangles.
For the carrot rolls:
- Roll the dough triangles into carrot shaped cones, starting with the wide end of the triangle. You want to make sure there is a space in the center of the cone for the cream cheese.
- Place in oven for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown. Remove and place on a wire rack to cool.
- Combine cream cheese, parsley, chives, basil and salt into a mixing bowl. Whisk together until smooth and well mixed.
- Spoon or pipe the crema cheese mixture into the crescent rolls. Garnish with sprigs of parsley for the “carrot top”. Serve and enjoy!
