From Soil to Snack: Caring for Our Planet Every Step of the Way (Grades 3-6)
Earth Day is on April 22 every year. But for Ontario grain farmers, Earth Day is every day! The global theme in 2026 is Our Power, Our Planet.
We all have the responsibility to take of our planet but when it comes to having real power to do it, farmers take that responsibility very seriously. Every day they make choices to positively impact the Earth as they grow healthy, delicious food for us to eat.
Take a look at our new resource, From Soil to Snack to help your grade 3 – 6 students understand food chains by tracing the path snack ingredients take from soil to snack. Along the way, they will learn about producers, consumers, and decomposers in ecosystems. Ozobots add an element of fun as students use their STEM skills to map the path.
Opens a dialogue for students to explore how snack ingredients start with the sun and end in the soil.
A short video introduces the concept that every step it takes to produce a snack impacts the planet.
