#FarmHerOntario: Sandra Clement

Did you know that 2026 is the International Year of the Woman Farmer? Join us throughout the year as we spotlight our #FarmHerOntario farmers to showcase the important role women grain farmers play in our food system. This time, we’re excited to share the story of Sandra Clement, who farms grains alongside her family.

My name is Sandra Clement, and I farm with my husband and our 3 girls. We are a family farm: growing corn, soybeans, wheat, and implementing as much as possible cover crops to improve soil health, prevent erosion from wind and water, manage nutrients, and suppress weeds.

I come from a village and didn’t grow up on a farm. After marrying a farmer, I slowly became involved in the operation (been in it for over 25 years now) and the very first time I climbed the ladder of a combine, everything changed. That moment sparked a deep passion not only for farming, but for the entire agricultural industry.

What started as helping out on the farm quickly grew into my full-time way of life. Today, I play an essential role in every part of the operation. From administration and field meals to soil sampling, rock picking, and managing the corn dryer during harvest, I truly do a little bit of everything. My favourite jobs include driving the grain cart and working the soil. Being in a tractor feels like therapy, giving me a quiet moment to watch my team work and see the fields evolve with the seasons.

My husband and I are raising the third generation on our farm. Our three daughters have grown up in fields and tractor cabs, learning firsthand the values of hard work, teamwork, and respect for the land.

I am passionate about agvocacy and write a monthly column in French for Agricom, a role I’ve held for over two years. Through my writing, I share the real story of life on the farm and help consumers better understand the agriculture that surrounds them every day.

Farming has given me purpose, passion, and a strong connection to the people who feed the world. I am so proud to be part of the next generation shaping the future of agriculture.
