Grain Discovery Zone 2025
With the end of the 2025 fair season, the Grain Discovery Zone is coming back from a busy season of travelling across Ontario. This year, the interactive exhibit made visits to 17 different fairs and events, attended 10 education days, and met thousands of fair attendees. All the way from Ottawa to Stratford, the exhibit has been a popular destination for many fair attendees.
The Grain Discovery Zone offers hands-on learning through a sensory grain bin, educational resources, and thought-provoking facts, along with an ambassador who can answer questions. It can be difficult to find trustworthy information on our grains, food, and farming, so the exhibit provides an opportunity for visitors to learn firsthand about barley, corn, oats, soybeans and wheat using fun and interactive experiences!

Sarah Lindsay, this year’s Grain Discovery Zone Ambassador, was enthusiastic to welcome many fairgoers to visit the exhibit. “It’s a great way for kids and adults to learn about grain farming,” she said, “when people see and hold these farm implement toys they might not encounter in their everyday lives, they become curious and start asking questions which leads to learning.”
“My favourite part is when children come in and see our bowls of grain,” she continued, “it’s really special getting to see when kids connect the dots between the grains in the bowl and their favourite foods; it’s no longer just something to play with, there’s that real life connection and it gets them excited about farming.”
With how many locations and events were attended, it’s been a rewarding and impactful season for the Grain Discovery Zone. The conversations started across the province have been insightful and help to create dialogue between grain farmers and the public. Altogether, these encounters have helped share the message about the importance of safe, healthy Ontario grains.
