Ontario teachers: Our FREE Whats Growing On? seed kits are now available for the 2018-2019 school year! This free resource, provided by Grain Farmers of Ontario, was designed to help Ontario school children understand the role grains play in the lives of Ontarians. It has been developed to complement the grade 3 curriculum and offers cross-curricular opportunities in Science and Technology, Social Studies, Language, and Mathematics. Click here to order.
Let’s get growing!
All the supplies needed for students to participate in the What’s Growing ON? seed planting/growing activity are provided, including a comprehensive teacher guide with curriculum connections, background information, and five activities for your class; a parent guide for every student; seed cups for every student (planting instructions printed on the outside of the cup) with seeds and a soil wafer for planting.
During this classroom project students will:
- Learn about growing grains
- Grow soybean or wheat plants
- Explore grain farming in Ontario
- Research the impact of weather on the growth of the plants
- Think critically about sustainability.
